There are so many unique restaurants along taft, especially cafes. Among that I've been to were Noriter and Cafe Travel. Both are cool but what I really wanted was to visit Cafe de Seoul in One Archer's Place. It's much farther from Vito Cruz that's why the visit came late.

No way, hallway
One Saturday after Independence Day (oh, sorry for the late blog, then) while most of the shops in One Archer's Place was closed, dropped by happily at Cafe de Seoul.

First thing I looked for: tablets on the table. But gone! Where did they go? Noticed too that the aircon was a bit malfunctioning, it's not getting colder.

But cute interior
Anyway, concentrating on the food... On their menu, as I'm actually looking for something to eat, I'm glad to find out that they serve rice meals! Compared to others which only serve sweets x sweets.

Bing-Soo next!
Tried their Kimbab Beef at Php 120. At this price, I already got about 10 slices. Taste was okay, tasty enough but nothing spectacular. Rice was not so soft as I'd expect from the Japanese version. (Or, educate me. Is this really the thing?)

Also had Mango Smoothie at Php 150. First taste was a bit off. It wasn't made of natural mangoes. But later on, good thing, it went fine. It also has a few swirls of caramel. That made it a bit better.

x2x2x2 :)

I really had high expectations from Cafe de Seoul. Though I haven't been there before, I think it has deteriorated slightly. Or was it because it's Saturday? And wifi isn't working that time. Double whammy!

Good thing there are still many restos to try around. That is, after I come back for their Bing-soo :)

Saw a short feature of Lazy Bastard in PAL's Mabuhay June issue. Barely a week after, where chances are fat, we're already in Lazy Bastard, Jupiter. And we're famished because it was an OT night.

Truly, Lazy Bastard is situated in a basement. It was quite hard to find it except for this big sign:

Woohoo! Underground fun!

Burgers & bacon await inside

It's just a very small restaurant, just an aisle if I may say. Nevertheless, the offer big burgers. I love their lazy neon sign, too that says "Long live bacon."

Hail! Hail!
Or their menu board that shouts, "Bacon is not pork, it's bacon." Who am I not to agree?

Ordered Bacon Cheeseburger at Php 220. And because we know we want to, all of us added extra bacon for Php 40. Piggy's delight! Haha. Upgraded it all to Combo at Php 90 with sides (fries, tots and rings) plus sodas in can. At that time, tots were unavailable so just had fries and rings.

Bacon Cheeseburger + neon lights
Alright, so here we come after about 10 minutes: the eating and review. The burger itself was big (of course, blame it to the extra bacon). In fact, we nearly had a heart attack finishing one. The beef was half my thumb thick. Then there's the melted cheese and a few veggies (nah!).

lazy bastard jupiter makati basement burgers onion rings fries
Mishmash of onion rings + fries

It was flavorful. In fact, it's salty for my taste already. The fries was fine but not too crispy. The onion rings were and I like how thick it was. I just don't like the breading. Maybe I'm so used to Burger King's version.

Overall, it's a good find. And really worth burgers because of the size. Beware of adding too much add-ons, though. Heart, heart.

It's hard to miss the huge, white imposing building of Gloria Maris (Shark's Fin Restaurant) in Greenhills Shopping Center. Perfectly curved, it enjoin shoppers for a sumptuous meal.

gloria maris greenhills exterior food review

There are two kinds of menu (or should I say dining area) they offer and serve at Gloria Maris: dim sum and hot pot (high-end). Since it's a hot pot night for us, a table of four shares an electric stove for the cooking.

gloria maris greenhills interior food review

Though we opted for hot pot, they allow for cross-over between dimsum. Perfect while waiting for the soup to boil. Speaking of soup, that's the first task in hot pot. Followed by the sauce. Good thing there were ready sauces I need not mix sate myself.

If unsure which soup to choose or what to mix, the staff are always willing to help. In fact, they're very accommodating.

There are a wide range of hotpot to choose from meats of chicken, beef, pork and lamb and seafood. There are even balls of meat available. For vegetables, there's the leafy green ones to eggs, mushrooms and noodles.

gloria maris greenhills Assorted Combination food review

To cut the tedious process of selecting short, chose from their New Choices: Assorted Combination for 4 Persons- Php 1,925. Except for the pictures, it doesn't say on the menu what to expect but here's what I can remember of it: balls of meat, sliced meats, a few sticks of prawns, sliced squid, crab sticks and even sea cucumber which was rubbery but good. The veggie pot has brocolli, Chinese pechay, cabbages, corn, tofu, sotanghon even mushrooms and bean curd skin. The skin has a very interesting texture.

gloria maris greenhills Assorted Combination 1 food review

I mentioned that staff are very accommodating. But just too sad that it came too much that the staff who was serving us dumped everything in the hotpot. Chinese would say they don't know how to cook authentic hot pot.

First off, especially for the meats since it's thinly sliced, it should be cooked a few seconds only and you have to wiggle or dip in and out it of the soup. So, second, we don't know which is which then after. A hullabaloo then of meats.

Anyhow, for the dimsum, had Baked Pork Buns at Php 175. It's yummy it crumbles to bits especially when hot. Also had Hakaw at Php 175 and the shrimp was heavenly. Sharksfin Siomai at Php 170 also curb our hunger for a while. And the highlight of our dimsum was the Peking Duck 1/4- ~Php 1,500. Whole was about Php 3,000. Their glazed Peking Duck was sweet and tasty.

gloria maris greenhills dimsum food review baked pork buns

Here are some of my tips:

  •  Select each for the hotpot if possible. Though tedious,  you can have control of which you like. Although if pre-chosen such as in the combination, might find a good pick just like the bean curd skin and sea cucumber.
  • No to chicken. It got weird for me the chicken. I cannot remember eating one almost as is.
  • Go for beef and cook them just in a few seconds. Remember my tip in Four Seasons Hot Pot City?
Was it fine for dining? All things considered, yes.

Wow, lechon Cebu made closer right inside BF Resort Village!

And because we love what loves our heart, we gave it a go. While all my friends tried their lechon, I went for Boneless Bob's Gourmet Concepts but both (Bob's Porchetta Sandwich and Bob's Lechon Wrap) were not available so I ended up with Bob's Lechon Sisig Rice at Php 110. Presentation-wise it looks so inviting with the greens and red of the pepper. But upon tasting it, it was so dry and I felt like eating just the remnants from the good part of the lechon.

Because I wasn't satisfied, I took a bite from my friend's lechon with chimichurri sauce. It tasted fine and the chimichurri goes well with it.

Well, I need to get back! Eyes on their gourment concepts.

And oh, we're on their blog!

Suzu Kin is located in a very muted area in San Antonio, Makati. With cars passing by, it's easy to miss it. However, when only walking and in search of something new to eat at, I guess spotting it would be natural.

The place was a bit drab. Yet on a weeknight, it's surprisingly full house. So gave it a shot.

The food took more than 5 minutes to be served. Had a very cheap Ebi Tempura at Php 200 for 6 pieces already. Well, it's not super fresh and I wonder why it's thinner than the usual. Weirdly though, I enjoyed it. I also like their tempura sauce which has a kick of ginger.

Another dish tried was Beef Garlic at Php 182 and it tastes good! Nothing fancy but just like the goodness of home-cooked foods. Let me suggest a tip. Use a spoon for this. And make sure there's no sauce left!

Rice for a bowl at Php 48.

Overall, there's nothing special about it but I honestly enjoyed it's simplicity.

When I posted my review on Balay Indang, I hinted that Tagaytay is just 10-15 min away. What better way to go home, than to go far and conquer the January cool breeze of Tagaytay?

So even if we're still full from the goodness of Balay Indang, we can't help but give in to the lure of hot chocolate and Bulalooooo!

Guess the name's too giveaway: green view while savoring Tagaytay's best: Verdi-view.

verdiview tagaytay bulalo
Good view combined with good foooooood!
My take on their Nilagang Bulalo at Php 450: it's good! Not 'sooooo spectacular I'm gonna die' way but yes, it's good. Tried kinda high-end version of Josephine's but theirs is much better. Served with a big and deep bowl, it has considerable amount of beef, with utaaaaak and vegetables. Perfect for the cold weather! Bet it can feed a group of four.

verdiview tagaytay bulalo
The veggies are many underneath!
To complement the coldness of the air, chocolate drink made of tablea at Php 45 is just oh-some! Others on their menu are affordable (except the famous bulalo, of course) too, though I haven't tried. See this:

Around the table is the place to eat with family and friends. More than the physical presence of the table as the bearer of food, it's also that area where endless chitchat happens.

I'm so glad to start my 2015 in the company of my friends around La Mesa Grille. Dim lit under the native chandelier, it's just about that conducive to laugh and talk about anything under the sun (unless outside where at night, music blares from the band.)

Feels like home
What is good talk without good food? While here, tried the ff:

Inihaw na Liempo at Php 175. Quite expensive for a strip of pig, right? Yes, but for me though, I enjoyed every munch of it. It's everyone's favorite, I know. But there's something special about their Liempo. Bet it's the marinade, it came out aromatic. To my taste, it's so flavorful, bit sweet even and tenderly grilled right. I enjoyed my every munch of their Liempo.

Lamesa Way :)
Kare-Kare with Beef/Tripe at Php 290.  I'm fond of eating this Filipino dish that I happen to almost every time order it wherever. I had my best at Little Quiapo in BF (been saying this all the time). And I'm super glad that theirs came second for me. It's peanuty. No need for bagoong. The meat and ox tripe both were tender. I just hope they serve it with more sauce and vegetables. But nonetheless, it was still awesome!

la mesa grill kare kare
This is yum!
Service is good. Price is great! Food comes not instantaneously but the staff were attentive to refilling water.

They also serve alcoholic drinks so chitchat can go as long as the wee hours.

"Life's a box of chocolates, Forrest. You never know what you're gonna get."

Truly. Definitely. I agree. Exactly because Bubba Gump's not what's we're craving for. But then when it's there already, you have to grab it and Run, Forrest, Run!

And we stopped, so here we are with Speckled Lemonade. One of the few non-alcoholic drinks here.
Eventually we stopped so hello there, Forrest! Here we are in Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. in Greenbelt 3! And it's a nice place to be after a tiring day. Feels really like an American home beside the sea.

Hello, there!
Seafood lovers, commence! For Appetizers:

House Special Calamari Rings (Php 370) is truly a delight! Oh calamari deep fried with two dippin' sauces. I can just munch all the time. Perfectly crisp!

Share the love <3
Ping Pong Shrimp (Php 345) lightly breaded each with mango pineapple salsa on top. Unbelievably yummy with a little spicy kick! A must try. The bottom is full of cabbages, too that we don't know what to make of. Care to explain?

bubba gump shrimp co. ping pong shrimp
Good choice!
There comes my favorite salad. Here we had Shrimp BLT Salad (Php 585) with Romaine lettuce, bacon, tomatoes in Ranch dressing. It's also with special Bleu cheese and shrimps. It's good but not a fan of this particular salad. I prefer their Classic Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken, classic to the core at Php 440 (not in the picture).

Hi shrimps with B-acon, L-ettuce and T-omatoes!
Here comes Forrest's Favorites:

Dixie Style Baby Back Ribs (Php 995) slow-roasted and served with fries and coleslaw. It looks mouthwatering and it is! I need not much effort on slicing. It almost slices by itself. Wickedly great! And it's not shrimp--let's take a break ;).

bubba gump shrimp co. Dixie Style Baby Back Ribs
Mouthwatering!
Forrest's Seafood Feast (Php 590) is a taste of many of their fried foods: shrimps, fish and chips, croquettes, hush pups and coleslaw plus dips such as tartar, cocktail and remoulade. I especially enjoyed the croquettes here and oh, the coleslaw. But too much fried can hurt, too. ;)

bubba gump shrimp co. forrest's seafood feast
A hodge-podge of everything!
And of course, Bubba's Shrimp Specials:

Shrimper's Net Catch (Php 770) right from the casserole for the shrimp lovers. But don't get too excited, it's not a good catch as in the picture. Anyhow, it's served with veggies and Secret Recipe Cajun Spice. Can be with Bubba's Garlic spice, too.

bubba gump shrimp co. shrimper's net catch
Not a good catch, eh?
And oh, although a tad expensive, this one is a good treat too. Not the Chocolate Rootbeer Float at Php 300+ but the glass with dancing lights.

bubba gump shrimp co. chocolate rootbeer float
Run it home!
All in all, expensive, some serving not many, all things considered, it's a great treat. Once in a while. Sometimes too, it's all about the experience.
