Negros Occidental is known as the Sugar Bowl of the Philippines. Not surprisingly in Bacolod, the capital of the province, some of the best sweet shops can be found. If in the old days sugarcane was a hit (as told by my dad who's from Bacolod), now the millennial traveler would say, "never leave Bacolod without trying Calea Pastries and Coffee."
Welcome to Calea :) |
We took that advice to heart. So when once we landed in The City of Smiles (which is Bacolod City) and part of the Sugar Bowl of the Philippines (which is Negros Occidental), we headed for a sweet fix.
What to choose? |
How chocolaty you want it? |
Inside Calea, there were numerous cakes to choose from. From the many, asking also the recommendation of the staff, we devoured these:
- Strawberry Cheesecake. Good choice but its sissy White Cheesecake is to die for! It's good to note that both cheesecakes were baked in a different way. This one is softer/ runny than the white cheesecake.
- Pistachio Sans rival. Pistachio goodness with crunchy layers, it was extremely good! Two thumbs-up!
- White Cheesecake. The best cheesecake ever! The sweetness was just right. Altogether it was heavenly!
- Chocolate Cake. What can go wrong with a chocolate? It was oh-so chocolaty! This one is highly recommended, too.
Ended up all these with a sweet drink with Iced Cafe Mocha at Php 105. Sweet on sweet ending might be too much of a sugar rush but the bloated tummies enjoyed.
Cheers to the sweet life! |
Prices of cakes weren't that cheap considering that it's in the province. It ranges from Php 90- Php 120 per slice.
Partner it with the equally sweet! |
Nevertheless, it was a real treat for the sweet tooth! We echo the calling, "go visit Calea in Bacolod!"
